Sometimes the best solutions are the easiest ones. A saltwater rinse can work wonders for dealing with a sore tooth (or a sore throat). To make a saltwater rinse at home, mix about half a teaspoon of salt into a cup of warm water. Make sure it’s not too hot so you don’t hurt yourself while gargling!
A cold compress is another home remedy that doesn’t require any special supplies. Get some crushed ice or a bag of frozen veggies out of your freezer and wrap them in a washcloth or towel. Presto! Now you have a cold compress. Put the cold compress on the side of your face with the tooth pain to try and ease any discomfort.
It’s okay to use some medicine like ibuprofen to get rid of your tooth pain. Two things to keep in mind: remember to follow the medicine’s dosage instructions, and don’t put any aspirin directly on your aching tooth or the surrounding gums. That direct contact could do some damage!
While all of the tips we just mentioned are ways to alleviate a toothache, you’ll still want to see a dentist so they can take care of the actual source of the pain, which can vary from patient to patient. Otherwise, the pain and problem could just get worse! So if you currently have a toothache, contact River Falls Family Dental so we can check out what’s going on and help you on the path to a pain-free smile.
