How to Care for Dentures

With dentures, you get a second chance at having a beautiful, full smile. But remember, just because they’re artificial teeth doesn’t mean you can skip out on taking care of them. We’ve put together some basic guidelines to help you care for your dentures so they stay looking great and last you as long as possible.

  1. Brush Your Dentures
  2. We hope you’re used to cleaning your teeth on a daily basis, and you should keep up this routine with your dentures. You want to make sure you get rid of any food or debris that may have gotten stuck in them! Brush your dentures every day with a soft-bristled toothbrush and a denture cleanser. You shouldn’t use toothpaste for this because it’s too abrasive for the denture material and could leave little scratches.

  3. Soak Your Dentures
  4. Dentures are removable so you’ll be taking them out every night while you sleep. When you do this, it’s important to soak them in a special denture-soaking solution so that they can stay moist and keep their correct shape. Just take care to follow any recommendations from Dr. Hendrix and the instructions on your chosen solution! For example, you shouldn’t soak your dentures in hot water because that temperature could warp their shape.

  5. Rinse Your Dentures
  6. In the morning when you wake up, it’s important that you rinse your dentures before popping them back in your mouth. You don’t want to swallow the cleaning solution or any of the bacteria that you just soaked off! Additionally, rinse your dentures after every meal so food isn’t left to sit in them. There are been cases of tomato seeds actually sprouting little plants… don’t let this happen to you!
